HOMESCHOOL DAYS

Bring STEM learning to life!

Through hands-on problem solving, creativity, and play, children will explore each month’s theme. Next up, GEOLOGY!

Each Homeschool Day has morning and afternoon programs. When you sign up for a Homeschool Day program, you can play at Badlands from 9:30am to 2:30pm that day, but you must sign up for each program individually.

FEBRUARY 21ST PROGRAMS

10:00 – 11:00 AM

EROSION INVESTIGATIONS

Ages: 4-6

In this class, students will conduct hands-on experiments to answer the question, “how did the Grand Canyon get so big?” They’ll see how sugar cubes get “weathered” by the motion of a river and then use water to erode a model canyon. Both activities will show how water can change the shape of rocks!

THE ROCK CYCLE ROCKS!

Ages: 7-9

Participants will learn how rocks form using Starburst candies! They will create model versions of sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks, then take a look at some real examples of each rock type.

1:00 – 2:00 PM

FOSSILIZED FUN

Ages 4-6

Students will get their hands on some real fossils to see what they can tell us about creatures that lived long ago! Next they will learn about how fossils form and finally make their own model fossil to take home.

LAVA LAB

Ages 7-9

In this class, students will explore how different types of lava create different shapes of volcanoes. They will experiment with imitation lava to discover how its thickness affects the type of eruption we see!
